I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

Many appliances and fixtures have taps that can be turned off. For example, the toilet will have a valve below or beside the cistern. If you cannot locate a tap, or that does not stop the leak, then turn off the mains isolating tap to stop all the water to the home.

Once that’s sorted, give our team a call, whatever the day or time is. We’ll be there shortly to get things sorted.

While waiting, remove any important items from the area, and mop up any water or position a bucket to catch any drips. If you have turned the mains water off, switch off the hot water heating as well.

Help, I don’t know where the main water shutoff valve is!
